Episode 3: Authentic Leadership
In this episode, we are talking about authenticity and how that applies to leadership as well as how this helps build culture. Leadership is a huge part of a successful business. In light of the role of leadership, it may be shocking to hear that 80% of hiring decisions for management are ineffective.
We are talking about why some leaders fail, what makes someone a good leader, and how to improve your own leadership so you can be more authentic and effective.
Don’t forget to join us for the next episode in this six-part series on leadership: Strengths Focused Leadership.
Takeaways:
There is a difference between management and leadership. Management is all about achieving the objective, whereas a leader brings people together to rally around a common purpose. Not every manager will make a good leader, but good leaders almost always make good managers too!
Trust matters. We work well with people that we trust and know their values. When we can feel safe to fail and inspired to thrive we will tend to do our best work. This happens when we authentically know our leaders.
Take time to know yourself. In order to show up and have authentic leadership, you need to know yourself first. You can do this several ways and you may find a Strength Finders test helpful. Until you know yourself authentically, you cannot share that with others. There will still be a need for situational leadership which requires you to adapt, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t being an authentic leader. Know yourself and know the difference between being fake and being adaptive.
