Episode 5: Leading With Accountability

Accountability is one of the topics in leadership that is talked about a lot, but it isn’t always talked about well. Our natural tendency is to focus on all the reasons why something is not our fault, regardless of if we ultimately take accountability for it in the end. So how do we lead with accountability?

In this episode, we are taking a look at why accountability is important, what is the first step to building accountability, and leading with accountability.

Don’t forget to join us for the next episode in this six-part series on leadership: Coaching to Success.

Takeaways:

  1. Accountability is not natural. That’s right, accountability is something you have to work on. So if your team doesn’t have a culture of accountability, don’t be discouraged! Accountability is something that can be learned.

  2. Be clear. If you want to hold people accountable, you have to have clear instruction on what is required, when it is required, and who will be accountable for it. You can’t have accountability if your team isn’t clear on their job.

  3. Own what you are accountable for as a leader. If you aren’t accountable, your team won’t be either. You need to display what it looks like to be accountable so you can create a culture around it!
